 What is Responsible Drinking?

Coming soon - a link to a video presentation on serving sizes of alcohol.  If we don't understand what a standard drink is, it is impossible to monitor responsible drinking. While your are waiting for the video, a standard serving of beer is 12 oz., wine is 4-5 oz., and distilled spirits (hard liquor) is 1.5 oz. unless the proof is higher than average.

For those individuals over the age of 21, and without the risk factors of high tolerance to alcohol and family history, we recommend the following guidelines for low-risk alcohol consumption.  These guidelines are based on research that investigated at which point individuals experienced more health and impairment problems related to consumption. For those with risk factors, we recommend speaking to your physician or a prevention professional.

0-1-2-3:

Zero is always low risk for alcohol consumption.

1- no more than one standard drink per hour (this does not mean continually, read on..)

2- no more than two standard drinks per day if you are a daily drinker

3- no more than three standard drinks on any one occasion
