Established in 2003, Partnership for Healthy Aging was originally formed under the name Health Care for the Elderly Workgroup in response to health priorities identified in the 2002 Community Health Assessment for Marathon County. Our vision is to support and enhance healthy aging in Marathon County, promoting safe independence in the home or community for as long as possible.
In 2005, Partnership for Healthy Aging identified falls prevention as a primary focus area. Wisconsin ranks second in the nation in numbers of deaths from falls per 100,000 population. Falls and fall-related injuries impose an enormous burden on individuals, society and the nation's health care systems. As our Marathon County population ages, the negative impact of falls continues to increase. Yet many falls and falls-related injuries, can be prevented with existing knowledge and technology. This is an important factor in maximizing one's independence and quality of life.
